She explained that if the language is difficult for the public to grasp, the candidates’ anti-corruption commitments would not be effectively conveyed.
Although the candidates’ vision and mission statements that have been published do not explicitly mention anti-corruption, Shela noted that some candidates are already working toward creating a clean, transparent, and efficient government and bureaucracy, which is part of anti-corruption efforts.
However, Shela expressed concern that the candidates’ anti-corruption commitments are currently only implicit.
“Once again, these are only implied commitments. Unfortunately, there’s no explicit or clear wording from the candidates. This could cause the public to doubt the seriousness of their anti-corruption stance, especially given how significant the issue of corruption. If it isn’t explained during the campaign, this could raise more doubts,” she said.
Shela stressed the importance of candidates clearly and explicitly presenting their anti-corruption commitments in every campaign. According to her, this would help reassure the public that the proposed programs would be implemented cleanly and accountable.

“Besides promoting their flagship programs, candidates must also ensure and commit that these programs won’t just be ‘carried out’ but will be executed effectively, with accountability, transparency, and responsibility,” she emphasized.
Shela also urged voters to carefully evaluate the candidates’ anti-corruption commitments. She explained that voters should not only look at the vision, mission, or programs of the candidates but also analyze their dedication to addressing corruption, even if it’s not explicitly mentioned in their statements.
“As long as the candidates can clarify which aspects of their vision, mission, or programs reflect their commitment to tackling corruption, this can be a key point of analysis when deciding whom to vote for,” she explained.
Shela further noted that reviewing the candidates’ track records is essential for the public, especially the younger generation when making their voting decisions.
The Flagship Programs of the Regional Head Candidates Will Not Succeed Under a Corrupt Government
A similar sentiment regarding the commitment of the Purwakarta regent and deputy regent candidates to the issue of corruption was expressed by public policy observer Agus M. Yasin.
He stated that the people of Purwakarta deserve leaders who not only focus on infrastructure development or economic improvement but also demonstrate a commitment and courage to eradicate corruption at its roots.
“A region cannot develop well if its leaders are not committed to cleaning their government of corrupt practices,” he said.
According to Agus Yasin, the candidates’ promises or commitments to create anti-corruption governance should be a primary concern for the public as voters.
“The public, as voters with the right to vote, must be wise in making their choices. Choosing a leader is not just about popularity, but about who can uphold the people’s mandate with high integrity,” Agus Yasin added.
