The activity, initiated by the student organization (OSIS) of MAN Purwakarta, took place at the Fatimah Azz-Zahra Hall and featured speakers from the General Election Commission (KPU) of Purwakarta Regency, Oyang Este Binos, and an academic from Mandiri University Subang, Dinda Nurul Aeni, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
The head of MAN Purwakarta, H. Wahyudin, stated that the Democracy Festival is an implementation of the independent curriculum, namely the ‘Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project’, combined with the ‘Rahmatan Lil Alamin student profile’.
“The Pancasila Student Profile and the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Student Profile complement each other harmoniously to create outstanding Indonesian students,” Wahyudin remarked.
As the 2024 regional elections approach, he emphasized that it is crucial for the younger generation to engage in politics and become agents of change.
“As the next generation of the nation, the students of MAN Purwakarta must possess a high political awareness. Through this Democracy Festival, we hope students can understand their rights and obligations as citizens and make wise decisions when choosing leaders,” he stated.
Wahyudin mentioned that the Democracy Festival aims to enhance political literacy among students at MAN Purwakarta, enabling them to become aware agents of change who understand their rights and responsibilities in fostering quality democracy during the simultaneous regional elections.
“This Democracy Festival is held to educate and strengthen student literacy so that they can participate in creating clean regional elections and quality democracy,” Wahyudin added.

Separately, the Head of the Socialization and Human Resources Division of KPU Purwakarta, Oyang Este Binos, expressed appreciation for the activities carried out by the MPK OSIS and the entire MAN Purwakarta community, which have been teaching the importance of democracy from an early age.
He noted that this aligns with the KPU Purwakarta program during the ongoing stages of the 2024 regional elections. The KPU is utilizing all strategic forums for outreach. The large number of first-time voters makes the role of students crucial in the upcoming regional elections.
“Therefore, we proactively engage in strategic spaces, including students, to ensure that information about the election stages reaches them. Ultimately, we hope that the community will come to the polling stations on November 27, 2024, to exercise their voting rights, thereby increasing voter participation rates,” said Binos.(Gin)
